Tabu Is Now Rumour

Tabu now trades as Rumour, and our Rumour birthday page has the booths, prices and booking details. The club at 1 Dover Street in Mayfair has been fully rebranded under the same ownership, with a new design and concept, and opens Wednesday to Saturday from 11pm to 4am. People still search for Tabu when planning a birthday, so this guide explains the change and how to book a birthday booth at Rumour.

Rumour is one intimate room of around 200, built around red velvet booths beneath backlit gold disc walls, with red velvet curtains, an arched doorway and low red lighting. Booths start from £1,000 minimum spend, spent on drinks and covering entry for the whole group, which across eight people is roughly £125 each. The door is 18+ with photo ID, the music is open format (hip-hop, RnB and house, read to the room on the night), and there is a no-photography policy in the main room and on the dance floor.

What Tabu Was

Under the Tabu name, the room was a Japanese-underground-themed Mayfair club, with dark, moody lighting and design drawn from Tokyo's hidden bars. Its music centred on hip-hop, RnB and Afrobeats, and its intimate size made it a popular choice for birthday groups of five to fifteen.

None of that describes Rumour today, which has its own design, music and terms. If the old Tabu sound is what you are after, Rumour's open format takes in hip-hop and RnB alongside house, and Tape London and Cirque Le Soir both play hip-hop and RnB for birthday groups too.

Planning a Birthday at Rumour

Rumour opens Wednesday to Saturday, 11pm to 4am. Wednesday and Thursday are the more relaxed nights and the easiest for guestlist entry; Friday and Saturday fill out and are worth arranging in advance. The dress code is smart and dressed up: heels for ladies, a considered look for men, no sportswear or fancy dress, and trainers at the door's discretion. Men are not added to the guestlist (it is a ladies' list, free to £20 on the door depending on the night), so a mixed birthday group should book a booth, which covers entry for everyone.
