Halloween Birthday in London 2026: How to Plan the Night

By Charlotte Hayes, Events Specialist

Halloween 2026 falls on Saturday 31 October. How to plan a birthday night out around it: Friday or Saturday, costume rules for a group, reserving early and getting home.

A Halloween birthday in London is one of the few birthdays where the whole city has already decided to throw a party on your night. If your birthday falls in the last week of October, that is both the opportunity and the problem: the atmosphere is free, but so is the competition for every good reservation. This guide covers how to plan a birthday night out around Halloween 2026 so the occasion stays yours rather than getting lost in the crowd.

Halloween 2026 falls on Saturday 31 October, which makes the final weekend of the month the busiest of the autumn. If your birthday sits in the darker months that follow, our guides to a December birthday and a January birthday cover those seasons in the same way.

What a Saturday Halloween means for your birthday

A Saturday Halloween changes the maths. When 31 October lands midweek, the celebrations split across two weekends and the night itself is fairly quiet. This year everything converges on one Friday and one Saturday. Time Out's round-up of Halloween parties in London for 2026 lists events running across Friday 30 October, Saturday 31 October and on into Sunday 1 November, and several line-ups were still under wraps when it was published. Expect more announcements through October, and expect the best nights to fill quickly once they land.

Note too that the clocks go back a week earlier, at 2am on Sunday 25 October, so the Saturday before Halloween has its own quirks. If your birthday is on the 24th or 25th, that weekend is a strong alternative to the Halloween crush.

Decide first: a Halloween party or a birthday on Halloween

Before anything is reserved, settle one question with yourself, then tell the group. Are you throwing a Halloween party that happens to be your birthday, or a birthday that happens to fall on Halloween?

The first means costumes for everyone, a themed venue and the birthday as a bonus. The second means a normal birthday night, perhaps in a venue that is not running a Halloween event at all, with the date as a backdrop. Both work. What fails is the halfway house, where half the group arrives in full costume and the other half in smart shirts, and nobody quite knows what kind of night it is.

If you choose the birthday-first route, a dinner-led evening or a venue with a regular programme will feel calmer than a ticketed Halloween party. If you choose Halloween-first, commit to it fully and put the theme in the very first message to your guests.

Friday 30 or Saturday 31 October

For most groups the choice is between the two nights of the weekend.

Friday 30 October Saturday 31 October
Atmosphere Busy, slightly less intense The peak night of the season
Availability Better, especially for larger groups Goes first; leave it late and choice narrows
Guests Some will come straight from work Everyone can spend the day on costumes
Next day Saturday to recover Sunday to recover

If the birthday is the priority and you have a group of eight or more, Friday is often the easier night to secure somewhere good. If the costume theme is the point, Saturday is the real Halloween and the night your guests will most want to dress up for.

Reserve early, and ask what changes on Halloween

Treat the last weekend of October like a December weekend: the earlier you reserve, the more choice you have. Halloween is a themed night at many venues, and themed nights can run differently from a normal Saturday. When you enquire, ask four things directly:

  • Is the venue running a Halloween event that night, and is entry ticketed?
  • Are the table terms the same as a normal Saturday, or do they change for Halloween?
  • What is the costume policy, and are masks or face paint a problem at the door?
  • Can a birthday be marked on a themed night, for example with a cake or a sparkler moment?

Get the answers in writing. That way there are no surprises on the night, and you can pass clear instructions to your guests. Our birthday enquiry page is the quickest way to put those questions to the venues we work with.

Costume rules for a birthday group

Costume nights at clubs are not the same as a house party, and a few simple rules save a lot of trouble at the door.

Check the venue's line on costumes first. Some places encourage full fancy dress on Halloween; others prefer a dressed-up nod to the theme over a head-to-toe outfit. Our guide to birthday party themes at London clubs explains why the polished, "inspired by" version usually travels better on a normal night, and that advice still applies at venues that are not running a Halloween event.

Make the birthday person unmistakable. On Halloween, a room can be full of witches and vampires. Give the birthday person something the group does not wear: a contrasting colour, a crown, a sash or simply the most ambitious costume of the night.

Faces must still match the ID. Expect to remove a mask at the door so staff can check it against photo ID, and keep heavy face paint recognisable. Everyone should carry the ID they would normally bring.

Leave props at home. Replica weapons, large accessories and anything that needs a cloakroom of its own are likely to be refused, and they make the journey across London awkward.

Think about the whole night. A costume that is perfect for photographs at 10pm can be miserable by 2am. Comfortable shoes and a coat for the queue matter more at the end of October than most people expect.

Money: the costume is part of the budget

A Halloween birthday costs guests more than a normal one, because the outfit comes before the first drink. If the night is ticketed as well, ask the group early whether everyone is comfortable with the total, and say clearly whether you expect costumes to be bought or improvised.

Agree how the birthday person's share is covered before the night, not at the table. Our guide to a birthday on a budget has practical ways to keep the total sensible, from pre-drinks to splitting costs fairly.

Keep the birthday moments in the plan

The risk on Halloween is that the birthday disappears into the wider party. Tell the venue when you reserve that it is a birthday, and agree when any cake or celebration moment will happen. On a busy themed night, earlier is better: a moment at midnight lands better than one at 1.30am when the room is at its loudest. Our birthday cake guide covers what venues usually allow.

Plan the journey home before you go

Halloween weekend is one of the busiest of the year on London's night transport. As of October 2026, the Night Tube runs on Friday and Saturday nights on the Central, Jubilee, Northern, Piccadilly and Victoria lines, plus a section of the London Overground Windrush line, so both nights of the weekend have an overnight service. Agree before you leave how people are getting home, keep phones charged and make sure nobody in costume is left to travel alone.

A Halloween birthday works best when the plan is clear from the first message: which night, how much costume, what it costs and how everyone gets home. If you would like help finding a venue for the last weekend of October, message our team on WhatsApp and we will check availability for your group while there is still real choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.What day is Halloween in 2026?

Halloween 2026 falls on Saturday 31 October, so the Friday and Saturday of that weekend are the main nights for parties in London. The clocks go back a week earlier, at 2am on Sunday 25 October.

Q.Should I celebrate a Halloween birthday on Friday 30 or Saturday 31 October?

Saturday is the real Halloween and the night guests most want to dress up for, but it fills first. If you have a larger group and the birthday matters more than the theme, Friday is often easier to secure.

Q.Can we wear costumes to a London club for a Halloween birthday?

It depends on the venue. Some encourage full fancy dress on Halloween while others prefer a dressed-up nod to the theme. Ask when you reserve, expect to remove masks for the ID check at the door, and leave replica weapons and bulky props at home.

Q.How early should I plan a Halloween birthday night out?

As early as you can. The last weekend of October is one of the busiest of the autumn, many Halloween line-ups are announced through October, and the best nights fill quickly once they are. Treat it like a December weekend.

Q.Does the Night Tube run on Halloween night 2026?

As of October 2026, the Night Tube runs on Friday and Saturday nights, so it runs on both Friday 30 October and Halloween night itself, on the Central, Jubilee, Northern, Piccadilly and Victoria lines plus part of the Windrush line.
